ADHD, effects on sleep and medications

Hello- I have had trouble with sleep for years and was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. As long as I could remember I do not sleep as long as others. However, I feel it has really taken a toll with not enough hours for years and years. I don’t sleep during the day and during the work week I average 4 hours per night. I have a smart watch and my REM and Deep stages have been short until I started taking melatonin and sleep medication this past year. I hear that medications are not good for you and not a long term fix. Despite sleep hygiene, routine etc it is the only thing that has helped get better quality of sleep. I am still working on getting a few more hours of sleep in to reach 6 on most nights. Has anyone else experienced this with having ADHD?

I have never experience it at all!

I highly suspect I’m adhd (not gone for diagnosis). I fall asleep at the drop of a hat, I’m that exhausted (sometimes on the sofa really early). I wake up feeling like I’ve not slept, or I wake in the night when I’ve had a day that’s been stressful (quite a lot of the time) and lay replaying it.
