Are there different increments of hours of sleep that will give you better rest? For example, sometimes I’ll sleep 5 1/2 hours and feel pretty good the next day. Sometimes I’ll sleep 6 1/2 hours and feel tired as heck. Are there any particular increments that seem to work better than others?
Hi! Thanks for your question. It’s not just about the number of hours you sleep—it’s really about the quality of your sleep. Even if you sleep longer, factors like how much deep sleep and REM sleep you get, your sleep environment, and how consistent your schedule is can make a big difference in how rested you feel. Sometimes a slightly shorter night of really good, uninterrupted sleep can leave you feeling better than a longer night that’s restless or fragmented. Hope that helps ![]()
Thank you. I was more meaning about cycles and when and how they end. For example. 3 hours bad, but 3.5 hours good. That type of thing.

Hi! Thanks for clarifying. Sleep cycles do play a role, but the effect can vary widely from person to person. Each cycle typically lasts around 90 minutes and includes light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep. Ideally, waking at the end of a cycle can make you feel more refreshed, but everyone’s timing and needs are a bit different. Things like stress, lifestyle, and overall sleep quality can shift how you feel regardless of the exact number of cycles. So, while the cycle concept is helpful to keep in mind, it’s just one piece of the bigger picture—consistent, restorative sleep is what really counts ![]()
