My grandson doesnt go to sleep until 5 or 6 in the morning. Sleeps all day til around 3 or 4. As soon as he gets up he takes a redbull and then around 6 or 630 he takes a pre workout with 400 mg of caffeine and goes to the gym for his workout. He’s 17 years old. What is a solution?
Does he stay up to play computer games? That may be part of the problem. He probably has natural night owl tendemcies due to his age (teenagers circadian rhythm tends toward late bedtime and late rising). It could be the gaming contibutung to the extreme nature of this. You can only solve this if he sees it as a problem and agrees that it needs a solution. If you have control over the internet you could cut off the wifi after 2pm. But rather than dramatically trying to change the pattern its more realistic to tweak it as you are more likely to get his consent. His routine may change if he encounters a social media influencer he respects who emphasises the importance of sleep or shows how bad redbull is for you. The answer depends so much on your relationship with /influence over him and whether he sees his lifestyle as a problem. If he goes to the gym and cares about training and muscle gain then that is probably your way in. My son weight trains and boxes and follows social media people who emohasise the importance of sleep and nutrition. They do all the work for me and i dont have to bag about any if that! Hence he sleeps much better than i.
