For the last couple of years, I’ve been struggling with oversleeping and waking up. I work in the service industry and have a night shift, so I generally don’t get to sleep until around 2am. I set my alarm for 9:30am, but when it goes off I still feel extremely tired, almost always end up snoozing, turning it off, or even sleeping right through it. I then sleep in till around noon, getting like 10 hours of sleep, still feeling tired and fatigued. It sounds like an easy problem to fix, but I just can’t seem to change this habit. It’s hard because I feel like I’m missing out on so much of my day before work.
I was doing some research online and it sounds like I might have something called hypersomnia. I haven’t talked to my doctor yet, but I’m wondering if anyone else experiences this or can shed light on the situation. I’d really like to avoid taking any additional medication if possible, and wondering if there’s anything I can try first.
