I had a home sleep study done a few years ago and it showed very mild sleep apnea. I was not impressed with the whole procedure and it felt like I was being marketed to, even though I was told my breathing stopped only six times during the night. Six times seems like too many times to me, but I was told that’s not a lot. Lately, I’ve noticed that I have drool spots on my pillow and sometimes wake myself up snoring. I’m a side sleeper and also use a cervical pillow for neck pain. I’d like to know if there is a halfway decent over-the-counter product that I can try. I’m on Medicare and will not get any help from insurance for a prescription device, quoted to me at $3500. I understand I can get a halfway decent OTC device for around $150. If that solves the problem, it seems worth trying first. I have a relatively large tongue and a low, flat palette that may be impacting my night breathing. I wear nasal strips to keep my nasal passages open. I have Sjogren’s and use xylimelts at night for dry mouth. I have never slept well and used zolpidem in the past, but can’t get anymore. The snoring and drooling is something new in the past year or so and I’d like to see if an OTC device might help. Any ideas on a good over-the-counter option would be appreciated.
